A word from the Birthday girl!

November 2, 2015

We woke up I was super happy because it was my birthday! We headed to St Louis to go to the St Louis Arch. We went to the campground first then we drove to into St Louis. When we got to the arch we went in little elevator thing with seats in them. On the way up it took four minutes and on the way down it took 3 minutes. Dad is so scared of heights so it was really funny watching his reaction at the top.

Everyone thinks that it’s the scariest thing on the roadtrip but I think that The Willis Tower in the blocks were scarier. It was a super cool view at the top! Then we had to go back down. After the super cool arch we drove over to the Golden Corral.

We ate as much as we could then drove back to the RV then went to bed. I had a really fun birthday going to the top of the arch!

The Alabama – Florida boarder

October 29, 2015

We started the day by swimming in the pool at the RV park. The pool wasn’t heated so it was really cold. After swimming at the pool we took the van to get some state pictures. After pictures we went on a ferry at Mobile Bay with our car over to Dauphin Island, Alabama.

IMG_3022 IMG_3021IMG_3163 IMG_3161 IMG_3165IMG_3181IMG_2982IMG_2980 IMG_2983IMG_3198

After the ferry ride we went to Fort Gaines. We just walked around for a little bit then moved on to the next thing.  It has been neat to see history of the wars right before our eyes.

IMG_0243

On the Island we were on they were moving sand from the hurricane weather they had like we move snow after a snowstorm in MN!  We went  to the beach next. When we got there I took about ten steps before realizing I was going to need a bag because there were so many shells! We walked for a little while before grace yelled out, ”I found a jellyfish!” so everyone rushed over to see it.  Even though it was dead it was super cool to see. We walked for a while and got lots and lots of shells! When everyone was ready to go we walked back to the car.

We took the ferry back over to the other side and drove back to our RV park.

Grace put together a video for us to remember our day.

Race weekend at Talladega Super Speedway

We had had little to no internet for the weekend, so here is the update for the McCleary Tribe since Friday.

October 23, 2015

We started the day near Atlanta, Georgia. On our list for things to do on the trip we had the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Alabama.  So, we headed that direction. The Unclaimed Baggage Center is a place that purchases stuff that isn’t claimed from the airport baggage area.

IMG_2786

When we got there we all split up and looked around. There were mainly clothes, but there was other stuff too –  like cameras, IPads, IPhone cases, shoes, etc.. There were two buildings with different things.   We went to both then Dad, Hannah, Burka, Buche and I decided we wanted to go back to the RV. A little bit later Grace and Mom came to the RV.  We found a few treasures.

After the Unclaimed Baggage Center we drove to Talladega, Alabama and slept there for the weekend

October 25, 2015

We went to the Camping World Truck Race at the Talladega Super Speedway.  It was a 250 mile race to get us warmed up for Sunday’s race.  In the evening we took in an infield concert featuring Easton Corbin.

October 26, 2015

We woke up and went to the Talladega Super Speedway church service.  It was put on by a Baptist Church from Alexandria, Alabama.  We almost felt like we were at home in Alexandria, Minnesota.  It was neat to worship at the base of the race track.

Rachael and I were able to get some pit paces, so we walked around the pits before the race.  It was pretty neat to get up to the cars in pit row before the race started.  Then the race started!  It was fun to see all the lead changes and shuffling for position.  It was interesting to listen to the headsets and how much work the spotters do as they are constantly instructing the drivers as to what is happening on the track and where their best lane may be.  The end of the race had a couple of crashes and unfortunately they were out of the view of our seats so we watched it on the TV that is across the track, just like everybody at home.  It was a great experience and we all had fun.

EdVenture in South Carolina

October 21, 2015

We woke up in North Carolina and headed to Edventure. When we got there we ate some food in the RV then headed in for some fun. First, there was a firefighter area, a grocery store and a farm area. We spent some time at each of them then we went to the world’s biggest boy.

We walked over to where he is and he is huge! He is 40 feet tall! We climbed up the stairs then entered his head. It was like a giant McDonald’s play place. It was very confusing climbing though him but super fun! We went on a slide through his intestines. Then went to the next spot.

We were then able to be a doctor and a dentist for a while. After that we went to a craft area. Burka built a really cute creature out of tape, cardboard, wires and many other things. Buche and Dad were building parachutes. Grace and Hannah colored pictures.

The boys and I played at the pizza place while the others ordered the pizzas. They were about to close so we only had a little bit more time. Grace found a game we should play called grossology. Grace won most of the rounds. We all had lots of fun playing. Dad made a 3-D picture too off a 3D printe. It finished as soon as they closed.

I had a lot of fun today at Edventure. It’s in my top 5 favorite things we’ve done on this trip. I definitely want to come back someday. Now we’re headed to a campground in Georgia.

Grace put together a couple videos of the “EdVenture” we were on today in Columbia, South Carolina.

A day at the caves

We woke up in Maryland and headed to the Luray Caverns. (Here are some state pictures that we’ve taken over the last couple days.)

IMG_2866 IMG_2916

When we arrived at Luray Caverns in Virginia we had lunch in the RV. Then we went to the cave. In our first couple of steps grace stepped wrong and hurt her foot somehow. We aren’t sure whats wrong with it. She had troubles the rest of the way in the cave.

IMG_2910 IMG_2909 IMG_2908 IMG_2901 IMG_2899 IMG_2888

Here was the wishing well. Every year they empty it out and donate it to charities.

IMG_2569

Here were the two eggs. They were super cool!

IMG_2572

After the cave we went to the gift shop. Grace got a wheelchair to go the camper in because her foot was all swelled up. Then we drove to Greensboro, North Carolina and we went out for Cold Stone with the Croatts. Thanks for coming on such short notice!  It was awesome to see you!

IMG_2579

After eating our ice cream we drove to our next campground.

Gettysburg, PA

October 15, 2015

We woke up in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and headed to Gettysburg. When we got there we went to go see the twenty minute movie about it. Then we saw the cyclorama about it. There was a huge painting in the cyclorama. The painting is one hundred thirty-one years old! It was really cool to see the cyclorama!

IMG_2798 IMG_2799 IMG_2800 IMG_2801

After we saw the super cool cyclorama we went to the gift shop. We got some stuff including a audio cd that would tell us about Gettysburg while we drove around. After the gift shop we went to the car to drive around the battlefield.

IMG_2250 IMG_2243IMG_2260 IMG_2258

These pictures are from “Little Round Top” on the Battlefield.

When we were driving around there were so many memorials. We walked up a few flights of stairs at one spot and it was a really pretty view from the top. We stopped at about fourteen spots that the audio cd told us about. It was really pretty because the sun was setting.

IMG_2809 IMG_2808

I learned that 252 of Minnesotas men went to fight in the war. Within the first few hours 85% of those men died. After the day at Gettysburg we drove the rv to our next campground in Millersville, Maryland. One of my favorite things about today was looking at the battlefields.

The Liberty Bell and The Mint

October 13, 2015

We woke up in Sussex, New Jersey. We got up and headed down the road to a bagel bakery and deli that our friends told us we needed to go to before we could cross the Jersey boarder.  We got some breakfast bagels with Talyor Ham.  They were yummy!!!  Thanks Gamps!  Then we drove to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to go see the Liberty Bell. It was a couple hours of driving but it was worth it. When we got there we had to go through security. I was surprised that it was free to get it to see it! We got a picture and moved on to the next thing.

IMG_2128IMG_3549IMG_2782

We walked to go see the U.S Mint, Which is where they made coins. There is only two Mints in the U.S and the other is in Denver. When we got there we had to go through security again! We went up the escalator to see the factory. I learned that it starts out as a coil then they stamp out the shape of the coin. After looking at the factory we went to the gift shop we got a few things them moved on to the next thing.

After doing all that we were hungry so went to a place and had some pizza. When she brought out the pizza it was huge! We all got our own slice. After having some pizza we went back to the RV and drove to Coatesville, PA at a campground.

Playing with the Pilgrims

We started the day in Middleboro, Massachusetts. We headed to Plymouth, Massachusetts to see the Mayflower II. We walked on the ship and started on the top. We saw one bedroom on the top floor. We then moved down to the next floor. This floor had a couple of beds. Some of the beds had rooms and some were just lying on the floor. There were a couple actors throughout the ship acting out parts and answering questions from visitors.

IMG_1685

Here’s a picture we got with one. The people acting out the parts had really thick accents. Next we went to the next level down and we saw the cannon that they would shoot if there were pirates following them.

IMG_1696 IMG_1701 IMG_1691 IMG_1685 IMG_2627

After we looked at the Mayflower II, we moved on to the Plimouth Plantation. Yes, that is how they spelled it.   We learned that they spelled things phonetically at the time of the Pilgrims and there was not just one way to spell things.  There was also a lot of actors here. In the Wampanoag tribal area we tried playing with the toys the Indians played with.  We tried to play a game made out of bones, but it was really hard. We went in a long house which they living in at wintertime with extended family.  I learned that it can get up to 80 degrees with their fire and how they built it!  We went inside many other houses too, which were their houses for the time other than the winter and they lived in these with just their immediate family.

After learning about the tribes we moved onto the village. We saw the Fort. The Fort is where they would shoot cannons if there were intruders. They were friends with the tribes but they were still scared that they would attack them. They build a big fence around the village to keep others out. The cannons in the Fort can shoot over a mile away. The ocean is right by the village so if there were pirates they could shoot them before they got on the land. We looked in the houses and in one the boys’ even played a game called 9 man morris.

IMG_2633 IMG_2631 IMG_2629 IMG_2628 IMG_2634

After looking at the village we went to the barn. There were a couple goats there. By the time we finished all of that we were hungry so we drove over to Cape Cod. We ate at a restaurant called ‘’Land Ho.’’ My mom had a hot dog with sauerkraut and pumpernickel bread.  And, since we are in the sign business it was cool to eat in a place that displayed signs everywhere!  It was very good and we would have never known about it had we not had such a nice friend, Chadyn who lives here and told us it was yummy.  Thanks, Chadyn!

IMG_2642 IMG_2644IMG_2639

The last thing we did today was go see the sunset on the other side of Cape Cod. It was really pretty. When we were done looking at the sunset we drove back to the RV in Middleboro.

Niagara Falls, New York

We woke up in Youngstown, New York. and headed to Niagara  Falls. We first went on a boat tour. The people gave us each a raincoat thing so we wouldn’t get drenched. When we went on the boat we went on the top to see better. The boat took us up to the horseshoe falls, and it was so cool! We got really wet but the raincoats helped a lot. It was also really cold out so the cold water on us just made us colder.

IMG_1508 IMG_1498 IMG_1489 IMG_1487

The next thing we did was go to the aquarium. We made it just in time to see the sea lion show! It was super cool to see! The sea lions were trained really well! They did flips, jumps and many more cool tricks. After the sea lion show we walked around the aquarium. We also got to see them feed the penguins!

IMG_1521

After the aquarium we went to Cave of the Winds. Again, we were given a raincoat and this time they also gave us sandals because you get really wet! We walked all the way around on some stairs and a couple spots we could touch the waterfalls and it even splashed up on us! When we were done doing that we walked back to the car and got on dry clothes. Then we went to go eat at the Hard Rock Cafe.

When we were done at the Hard Rock Cafe we went to go see the movie about Niagara Falls. The movie told about Niagara’s past. One time there was a 7 year old boy that fell down the falls with just a lifejacket. The people on the boat ride saw him and they rescued him. His 17 year old sister was rescued 20 ft. from falling down the falls by some tourists. There was also a daredevil that walked across a tight rope 8 times above the Niagara Falls – one time he even did it with someone on his shoulders!

Before we left we went to check out the Falls one last time.  They were lit up.   It really is so beautiful!  We bought some souvenirs and then we ended the day Youngstown, New York. My favorite part about the day was either the sea lion show or the Cave of the Winds. I had a lot of fun today even though it was really cold.

Chicago, Illinois

September 28, 2015

We woke up in Union, Illinois. We got ready then drove into Chicago. We first drove under the L. It was really cool driving around Chicago. I loved looking up at all the tall buildings. We saw a building that for the roof it was a steep slant. It’s very dangerous that it’s at a slant because in the winter snow piles up on it and then big ice sheets fall on the intersection. After driving around a little bit we found a parking spot. We had to go up 12 floors to find a parking spot.

The first activity we did was the Willis tower. We went up the elevator which was really fast! When we got to the top we went in the cubes that hang over the road 108 floors down. My dad was freaking out. It was a little scary at first. It was so cool! We got some pictures then went to go look at the gift shop. We went down the elevator to go look at more things.

IMG_1144  IMG_1148 IMG_1147IMG_1150 IMG_1153

After looking at the amazing Willis tower, we went to go eat at Giordano’s which is a super good pizza place. We wanted to get the bus tour so we went to go get tickets. We started talking to someone to get the tickets but then the other people who work at the other company tried to get us to get their tickets so then they kept changing the prices back and forth. We finally decided one of them.

IMG_1184 IMG_1178

IMG_2853

When we got on the bus we stopped at the bean and got off. It was really cool. I got some pictures of the bean then I walked under it. It looked so confusing. It gave me a headache. We got back on the bus and the bus went to the lakeside off Chicago. It was really windy on the lakeside but we got to see Lake Michigan. It was amazing!

IMG_2452 IMG_1204

IMG_1229

Then we drove up to Wisconsin. To get a keychain and to get a picture by the Wisconsin sign.

IMG_1266

My favorite part about the whole day was the Willis tower because I thought it was really cool going into the cubes. A cool fact I learned was that the Willis tower was first called the Sears Tower but then Sears sold it and the new owners named it the Willis tower.
